Labor Day 2018

The last 2 years have been so stressful. Thank you to all those friends who have provided me comfort and, even, joy.

Special thanks to:

Barb, who drove me hundreds of miles in her Mini Cooper to check out nursing homes, calls or visits the house every day, spends hours preparing culinary delights, has performed hundreds of kind and practical deeds (such as searching all of Brooklyn for adapters for my outdated digital camera), and takes me on adventures when I need a break.

Gary, who sat for hours on end at the foot of Jim’s hospital bed, always calls to ask how we’re doing, went grocery shopping and ran errands for us when I had the flu, baked an apple pie for Thanksgiving, brings his weekly chocolate cookies and listens with love.

George, whose generosity and compassion have made everything so much better, who hired a caregiver to tend to Jim during our visit to his house and provided a lawyer to fight the insurance company, and who has deep insight into the human heart.

Gaynor, whose gentle English humor helps me “Keep calm and carry on” (well, the best I can).

Larry, who took care of me when I had a cold, put me in touch with administrators to get the best care for Jim, always has the great jokes and helpful connections.

Tim and Connie, who always pick up the phone, listen with compassion and wisdom, send handmade, watercolor postcards and make me feel that I myself have importance beyond being a caregiver.

Vincent, who picks up the phone every single time, even though he has a lot going on himself, and who encourages me to make art of my own and validate my own needs.

To everyone at Tiger J (Master Ok, Master Hyuk, Master Shin, Seulki, Nicos, Eugenia and Madani), who stop the stress from taking too much of a toll on my body, and offer endless encouragement and support.

Rosie, Adelaide and Marie, whose loving professionalism and good cheer make a bad situation tolerable.

John and Linda, who always have something brilliant to say, and make me feel understood and respected.

Gen and Lily, who have helped ensure that Jim’s films and photographs will be viewed for generations to come.

I am so grateful to all of you!
